2014 RONE Award Winner for Cover Design!

I am delighted and humbled to announce that I’ve won an award for book cover design in this years’ RONE Awards!

The winning design in the Mystery/Suspense Category was for ‘Cache A Predator’ written by M. Weidenbenner. The book is available on AMAZON. A summary of the book (SOURCE: Amazon listing):

Cache A Predator cover

Officer Brett Reed will do anything to gain custody of his five-year-old daughter, Quinn. But when a judge grants Brett’s drug-addicted ex-wife custody and slaps him with a protective order for losing his temper, he fears for Quinn’s safety. Who will protect her now?   When Quinn is found abandoned on the streets, she’s placed in a temporary foster home until Child Protective Services can complete an assessment. It should only take a few days. But a lot can happen in a few days.   Especially when there’s a deranged psychopath on the loose, someone who’s attacking pedophiles, someone who wants to protect children like Quinn, and someone who’s planting body parts in geocaching sites. Cache a Predator is a novel about a father’s love, justice, and the unhinged game of hide-the-cache.

This was the first collaboration with Michelle Weidenbenner as I have since designed a second cover design for her novel ‘Scattered Links’.  I also produced the book trailer for Cache A Predator:

I enjoyed working with Ms. Weidenbenner on all three projects! For Cache A Predator we discussed several potential cover designs at the beginning of the project, finally settling on the dark moody forest scene with the haunting girl’s eyes staring back at the potential reader. We spent hours and hours between us searching for just the right model for this cover as we needed the girl to really draw the reader in. We found the little girl we were looking for through the stock agency Deposit Photos. The photo was taken by member Mirchella.  I created the background blending a forest image with a boardwalk image. I then added the rain (created from scratch in Photoshop) and dark tones to achieve the overall haunting almost sinister background.

The award was a wonderful surprise! You can review the full list of winners and honorable mentions HERE on InD’tale‘s website.

I must thank Michelle for being such a wonderful and inspirational writer and such a joy to work with! I look forward to working with her on future projects! Please take a look at her novels and check out Random Writing Rants for her tireless efforts in supporting fellow authors everywhere.

And thank you to InD’tale Magazine, sponsor of the RONE Awards and to all of those who voted for my cover design!!
