Welcome, Pauline Barclay, to Avalon Graphics’
Summer Ice Cream Social!!

Pauline Barclay

[Cathy of Avalon Graphics] First things first – I have to ask what your
favorite ice cream flavor is:

[Pauline] Vanilla and even better if topped with caramel… yum!

[Cathy of Avalon Graphics]  Pauline, please tell me a little bit about yourself!

800×600

I live on the island of Lanzarote with my husband and are two lovely rescue doggies. Before coming to Lanzarote I have lived in one or two different places. I was brought up in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK which was the inspiration for my latest novel, Storm Clouds Gathering. SCG-3DMy family left Yorkshire when I was in my mid teens and we moved to Suffolk. Years later, with my husband, we moved to Surrey and then to Holland. I spent many years working in the oil industry in communications and public relations. During those years, I burnt the midnight oil studying with the Open University. After six years I gained a BA (Hons) degree. Today I spend my time writing fiction. Including my latest book, I have four books published: Sometimes It Happens… Magnolia House, Satchfield Hall and Storm Clouds Gathering.’

Just a few curious questions I’m putting to my guests
while we are enjoying our ice cream today:

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Tough question because I love where we live. I love the sunshine, warm weather and life at a few beats slower than the mad rush of modern life.

The gorgeous beach

What inspires you every day and why?

My lovely husband, our doggies and the wonderful sunshine we have here. All three inspire me to enjoy my live and make the very best of everything we have. Life is not about having too much, it’s about knowing how much you have.

Pauline’s adorable doggies – Poppy & Barney

What is your favorite food?

No problem there, eggs, but if they are fried, boiled or poached they must have runny yolks, the best part of the egg! Or else!

What is your fondest memory?

So many I’m not sure I can choose one. Holding my brother when he was born, seeing the look of love in our first rescue doggy’s eyes when we brought her home, feeling the prickle of tears when my husband organised a surprise long weekend in Portugal for one of my special birthdays. I could go on…..!

What is your pet peeve and why?

Rude people. Nothing more annoying than hearing people ask or demand something and miss out the important word, please or thank you. Call me old fashioned, but it isn’t going to reduce their life or oxygen intake, but it could make a difference to how others react.

Favorite book in the world?

My another tough question, I have read so many books and in general loved most of them, but if I have to narrow it down to one, I’ll say, Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I simply loved the book and film.

Favorite scent?

Vanilla. The fragrance for me creates an ambiance of relaxing and peace. I have a bottle of perfume, Exotic Poison and it is rich in the vanilla aroma.

How did we meet?

Through the wonderful author, Helen Hollick who suggested I contact you for my book cover designs. Thank you Helen, because I now have fabulous book covers and a lovely lady I call my friend.

Suzy, thank you so much for your lovely kind words, I feel so humbled. Hubby organised a surprise weekend to Albufeira one November, there was a terrible storm, but the sun came out afterwards. It was a lovely weekend. Hugs to you Suzy xxx

Great interview Cathy – Pauline is an absolute diamond. She works hard and does so much for Famous Five Plus. I’ve known her since 2009 when our first novels were published. She’s a ‘virtual’ friend but at the same time very real and supportive.
